At Northsix, Brooklyn, New York with My Favorite and Stick Insect, which kind of sounds like the kind of bill we'd often be on ten years ago!

Thursday, February 24

At the Black Cat, Washington, D.C., with Unrest, Plus Minus, True Love Always, the Fontaine Toups, and Jonny Cohen. It's the 20th anniversary of Teenbeat—come celebrate with us, 1992-style!

The story behind the reunion This past June, Mark Robinson sent out a call to Teenbeat artists past and present to see whether they were interested in taking part in the upcoming 20th anniversary celebrations. I (Andrew) sent out this email:

And everyone, surprisingly, was into it. So this past December we gathered in Baltimore, home to Ian Jones, our stalwart conga player, and moved into a practice space that we had to drive through season 2 of The Wire to reach. Rob, Evan and I were in one car and were nearly run off one desolate industrial road by a truck driver who clearly didn't give a hoot whether we had right-of-way or not. We figured God realized we were in one car again and was enthusiastic about finishing the job he'd never quite managed to pull off when Eggs were together.

Practice went surprisingly well. Evan and I both learned that you can't play without a pick if, say, a decade has passed since your last show. (Also that the fingers on your left hand emit heat after enough use!) Ian learned how to string a banjo in five minutes. We all learned that John hates playing "The March of the Triumphant Elephants." But mostly we had a lot of fun reconnecting and reminiscing. Some songs we could play right off the bat. Others took considerably more time. But after two days of practice we felt we were probably at least as good as we were most nights a decade previous. Just to be safe, we're gonna get together once more before the shows.
